Town of the Week: Back to Catskill

Around here at Upstater, we’re quite familiar and fond of the Greene County town of Catskill and all of its wiles and charms. Although we dubbed it our Town of the Week waaaaaaaaaaay back in 2011, it’s been a while since we checked out the market, sniffed around the houses, and explored the village outside of the occasionally post on Five-Figure Fridays. Catskill rarely disappoints when it comes to inexpensive properties, and the village is really starting to come into its own these days with destination spots like art galleries and shops. If you haven’t poked around in a while, spring’s a-comin’. Might be time to head up for a visit, walk around the waterfront park, and check out the antique stores (don’t forget to stop at Catamount People’s Museum).  The most recent edition of Upstate House offers a community profile of Catskill. You can read it here. Although named Catskill, the town is not actually in the Catskills but situated in the foothills along the Hudson River Valley. Catskill is located approximately 20 minutes north of Saugerties (it’s on the west side of the Hudson) and about 40 minutes south of Albany.
