Town of the Week: Shokan
Kandy Harris | May 29, 2012Apparently, both David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix spent some time living in Shokan (Ulster County). If that doesn’t say something about this week’s TOTW, we’re not sure what does. It’s not hard to see why anyone would want to live here, especially if they’re looking for a place to hide away from the hustle and bustle. The hamlet of Shokan is located within the town of Olive, which is also the location of a recent Town of the Week: Olivebridge. It’s a lovely hide-away, an enviable Catskill Park location on the shores of the Ashokan Reservoir.
The hamlet of Shokan is quiet, to be sure. It’s not a cute little walkable village with restaurants and shops lining streets, where tourists come to spend time and prowl. Instead, Shokan is a place to hide, a place where you look to go when you want to disappear, a place where you want to embrace the deep Catskill Mountains, a place where you look to find an amazing home where you will not be found.
To that end, there is not a whole lot for sale in Shokan. However, the houses that are for sale or so gorgeous, so Real Estate Porn-tastic, we can’t help but dedicate this short Memorial Day week to them. We hope you will enjoy!
