Two Stone Houses: Lake Katrine, $289,000 or Saugerties, $429,000
Kandy Harris | June 15, 2012If you are as beguiled by these old stone houses as are, you’re going to dig these two for sale in different parts of Ulster County: Lake Katrine, near Kingston, and Saugerties. The Lake Katrine property is pristine and a good price for a well-preserved >2000 square foot house built in 1798 on 2.5 acres. Love the out-buildings, too, especially the little Victorian play house, and the recessed windows in the bedrooms. The taxes nearly kill the deal, though, since they’re over $8000. Ouch.

This one on Ricks Road in the town of Saugerties, while still great, is a lot more expensive and needs extensive work. Nonetheless, it would make a wonderful project for someone who loves to restore old stone houses (this one is circa-1751). Plus, it’s on 65 acres between Saugerties and Woodstock (Saugerstock), and it includes a nice-looking barn.Taxes are $6400.
