A huge gorgeous carriage house in Saugerties is on the market for 299K. The catch? It still needs converting if you do not want to use it as a carriage house. It does have a 900-square-foot, one-bedroom/one-bath apartment currently upstairs that appears from the photos in great shape. The bones are there, and they are gorgeous, with everything intact still, including the stalls and sliding carriage doors, molding and wide beamed floors.
It is stunning and has so much potential. The carriage house section has a half-bathroom already installed, and the property has a deck and a partial basement. Completed, it could be a masterpiece and even has seasonal Hudson River views. It is located between another home for sale which is gorgeous (with not so gorgeous taxes) and also the Renwick Clifton House, a B&B which was the mansion that this carriage house originally belonged to. (Check out the “history” on the Clifton.)
It is in a very convenient location near adorable downtown Saugerties with its restaurants, cafe’s and shops, and also a short jog down 9W to Kingston big box shopping and the Rhinecliff Bridge and Amtrak.
I have no idea how much this would cost to renovate. I am guessing it would not be a quick, easy or inexpensive job if you planned on converting it to a single family home, but done slowly while using the upstairs unit while you renovated, you may have yourself an estate to pass down, or simply a great investment. Even as is, it is a gorgeous home for an equestrian, and being that HITS (Horses in the Sun) takes place in Saugerties, I am sure that the carriage house could come in handy. This is an old Sotheby’s listing of an already renovated carriage house featured on Curbed.com, and should inspire you to see some of the possibilities that a carriage house can have. More amazing photos on the jump.
