Upstater Destinations: Catamount Aerial Adventure Park

  |  September 20, 2012

If you’re idea of fun is leaping and climbing from tree to tree, impervious to height, while attached by caribiner to a guide-wire and safety harness, then the Catamount Aerial Adventure Park in Hillsdale is definitely the place for you.

Situated in a 10-acre wilderness area near the Catamount ski resort, the Catamount Adventure Park, according to the FAQ on their website, is an “aerial forest challenge park consisting of over 170 platforms installed in the trees and connected by various configurations of cable, wood, rope and zip lines to form bridges.” Sounds intimidating, but course participants are always connected to the safety line and harnesses and aren’t permitted to take them off while they’re navigating the course.

Catamount Park offers a variety of options for participating in some derring-do, including over 50 zip lines (two of which are over 2000 feet) and 12 separate courses, depending on your skill level. So even if you’ve never before experienced the thrill of the wind rushing through your hair as you zoom through the trees at a bajillion miles an hour, there’s a beginner course.

Frankly, the whole prospect sounds a little scary to us, since we tend to like being on good ol’ terra firma. But maybe even us sissies will take a chance on a course while we can, since the park shuts down for the winter season starting October 28th. Check out all of the details on their website.
