Upstater Destinations: The Streets of Cairo
Kandy Harris | January 24, 2013We have to admit: There’s not a whole lot to do in Cairo in the wintertime, as most of the best activities involve getting outside to experience the Catskill Park trails and scenery, going swimming in a hidden swimming hole (we’ve been known to use the satellite option on GMAP to scout a few), or visiting one of the many Greene County farm stands in order to taste some of the best seasonal wares in the state. Yes, yes, we know. There’s skiing at Hunter, which isn’t far away. But we know all about Hunter.
So what does one do when the Shingle Kill runs cold, when the breezes chill to the bone and toss the brittle leaves around the streets of a quiet Catskill Mountain town? Well, if you’re like us, you bundle up, grab your camera, and start snapping.
Here are some of our favorite shots around Cairo.
So, what are your recommendations for winter fun in the Catskills? Where’s your favorite place to hit the slopes, go skating, sledding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, dog-sledding, ice-fishing, or Polar Bear Diving? Tell us in the comments!
