Today’s Upstater find celebrates its 125th birthday this year. Located in northern Rockland County, it’s a stone-walled gem.
Actually, the entire house is stone, carefully laid and capped with a mix of gambrel and gable roofing. A covered front porch, at ground level so there’s no need for a railing, is a welcoming touch.
Original woodwork abounds here, like in the carved staircase at the center of the house.
The Craftsman lover in us swoons at the finely trimmed, stained-glass windows that flank this fieldstone fireplace.

Although we appreciate the thick, dark cabinetry in the kitchen, there’s little else that’s worth hanging onto. The drop ceiling, fluorescent lighting, and wallpapered wainscoting all need serious updates, in our opinion. Yet the room is a good size, big enough for a hefty dinette.
Wall-to-wall blue carpeting matches floor-to-ceiling drapery in this family room. Try as we might, we can’t get ourselves to appreciate the mix of blues and yellows here.

And this half-bath has a saving grace in a stone accent that’s visible in the mirror’s reflection.
The home’s three bedrooms are all in need of a refresh, if not a full-on repair.
We have little faith in the sustainability of the crumbly ceiling in this bedroom.
A slick of turquoise paint doesn’t hide the funky angles and weary condition of the walls and ceiling in this bedroom. But even with all the work that could be done, the home still has its charms.
We mean, just look at those exterior lines and perfectly-laid stone. The house sits on more than a third of an acre, and the interior space comprises 1,771 square feet. The property is close to all the shopping you need, plus it’s under a mile from the Garnerville Industrial Center, where you’ll find great eats at Hudson’s Mill. The house is listed for $535,000.
