This Walden Village c.1890 Victorian is Worth Its Weight, $162,000
Kandy Harris | May 24, 2016Village living on over an acre of land: Can it be done? The answer is a resounding “yes” in the Hudson Valley, as this Walden property proves. In fact, this one doesn’t have just an acre…it’s got two, as well as four bedrooms and a 32′ living room addition on the inside.
Hardwood floors also live on the inside of this 1700 square foot house, along with original wood details, built-in shelves, scores of windows, and a large kitchen, although said kitchen comes with “as-is” appliances and a broken oven. That’s probably not a deal-breaker for anyone, especially given the price tag well south of $200,000. What might be a deal-breaker, however, are the taxes, which, if you haven’t yet noticed, are high. Some might argue excruciatingly high. The 2014 taxes were $7,223, and that’s downright reasonable for the area.
Walden is Orange County’s third largest village with a population around 7000, and it’s jam-packed with historic buildings and storefronts. The Walden-Wallkill Rail Trail links the village with the hamlet of Wallkill in Ulster County, just over three miles away by trail. More on Wallkill later this week. Meanwhile, take a look:
