Looking for Something Mellow? Here’s a Sweet and Simple Dutchess Co. Cottage, $249K

  |  August 31, 2018

Tucked away on a hidden 1.19-acre lot, this Wappingers Falls cottage ticks all the boxes for comfort, style, and ease…

This week on Upstater, we’re rejoicing in living smaller. The homes featured over the past several days are decidedly not the rambling old farmhouses that litter so many upstate New York fantasies. Instead, our featured listings have been 1,000 square feet or less, and often have listing prices to reflect their modest size.

Of course, modesty in the eye of the beholder, and what one might consider modest, another might consider, to quote Goldilocks, just right. And, this cottage strikes us as just right.

The 840-square-foot cottage was originally built in 1940 but has since received a full remodel. Includes living room cathedral ceilings and fireplace with built-ins, as well as a surprisingly spacious galley kitchen with double sink, stainless steel appliances, and copious cabinets for storage. Also includes two bedrooms.

The small size of the cottage, along with all the new features, makes this home ideal for those who don’t want to spend time maintaining a property. The 1.19-acre lot is mostly trees, save a  the flat lawn surrounding the house, so no complicated mowing involved.

As for the location, the property is situated about 10 minutes north of Hopewell Junction in southern Dutchess County, east-of-Hudson, 90 minutes from NYC. Get to NYC by hopping on the nearest Taconic State Parkway exit, which is about five minutes from the cottage’s front door. Or, you can head 20 minutes west to Poughkeepsie and take a Metro North train.

However, if it’s some privacy you crave, you’re going to find it here…that is, until the turkeys drop in for a visit.
