This Week on Upstater: Consume Less in these Homes from the Hudson Valley & Catskills
Kandy Harris | December 5, 2016
As we move into a season known for its consumerism, this week on Upstater, we wanted to focus on something quite the opposite: Consuming less. And how, exactly, does that fit into the Hudson Valley and Catskills real estate market? Turns out, very nicely
There are numerous properties on the market that have been renovated, upgraded with new energy efficient systems (solar panels, radiant floors, off-grid generator, etc.), and/or outfitted with reclaimed wood and other materials. We’re talking about homes that include pellet/wood stoves to reduce heating costs. We’re talking about properties that utilize the sun’s natural warmth and light with big windows. We’re talking about homes that circulate cool air from underground to keep the temperature tolerable during the occasionally brutal and humid summers. And, we’re also talking about the ultimate in recycling: Renovating an already-existing structure. Using something that already exists creates less waste in general. Or, as was once said regarding Steve Austin, AKA the Six Million Dollar Man: “We can rebuild it. We have the technology.”
Even if you’re just looking to save on your heating bill in your new home, this week’s crop of listings should offer something for everyone looking to reduce, reuse, or recycle.
Stay tuned…
