Innisfree Gardens in Millbrook, Dutchess County

And just what, exactly, likes east of the Hudson River and the Taconic Parkway? Why, eastern Dutchess County, of course. If you keep going, you’ll hit either Connecticut or Massachusetts depending on whether you’re in northeastern Dutchess or southeastern Dutchess. Head due south on the Taconic Parkway for around a couple of hours and you’ll be in Manhattan. Hop in your car and head west for 30 minutes, and you’ll be swimming in the Hudson River.

You get the idea. Towns like Millbrook, Amenia, Wassaic, and Millerton get to be in the best of all worlds: Hudson River to the west, MA and CT to the east, NYC to the south, and the Catskills not too far away. They get the rural country life with the possibility of mountain views, accessibility to public transportation (two stations on the Harlem line, Wassaic and Ten Mile River, just a few miles apart), and really cool stuff to do, like visiting Innisfree Gardens or Wings Castle in Millbrook. Or, Wethersfield Garden in Amenia. Or, the Wassaic Project Summer Festival during the first weekend in August. Or, shopping and biking/walking the Rail Trail in Millerton. There’s a lot to do in this part of the Upstater neck of the woods, and we can wait to spend this week showing you the real estate around the area. Spoiler alert: We found good stuff! Expect eye-candy, fixer-uppers, land, low prices, and more.

Stay tuned…
