This Week on Upstater: Rethinking the Ranch Home
Kandy Harris | July 24, 2017When it comes to residential building design, is there any more of a work horse than the Ranch home? Pragmatic, single-storied (unless it’s raised), and possessing an uncomplicated floor plan, Ranch-style homes are often overlooked in the listings due to the fact that they appear so uniform on the outside. Ah, but underneath is where it counts, and finding a stylish Ranch requires scratching the surface to reveal the beauty that exists inside. So listing-surfers, take note: To find an attractive Ranch, you must click beyond the first photo in the gallery, Grasshopper.
This week on Upstater, we’re celebrating the sensible Ranch. Made popular during the the 1950s, the Ranch typified notions of wide-open spaces of the American West and became the canvas for which Modernists could make open living spaces with walls of glass, clean lines, cathedral ceilings, and sunken living rooms. All over the Hudson Valley and Catskills, there are plenty of Ranch homes that maintain that sensibility currently listed on the real estate market, and we intend to sift the listings to find you the best of the best. Stay tuned as Upstater prepares to spend a week down on the Ranch…
