This Week on Upstater: Rural Columbia County
Kandy Harris | April 3, 2017Used to be, when one wanted a rambling old farmhouse to renovate in upstate New York, one headed straight to Dutchess County on the east side of the Hudson River. Alas, houses were cheaper back then, and Dutchess County’s popularity has grown since. While you can still nab something reasonably-priced from time to time in Dutchess, you’ll have a much easier go of it if you head just north to Columbia County, where the landscape is just as idyllic, the villages just as sweet, and houses just as pretty.
This week, we’re headed to the woods and rolling landscapes of Columbia County to scout some country properties on a big piece of land to call home. For the most part, we’ll be staying away from the more populated areas of the area like Hudson city, but with a county population of around 63,000 spread out over 650 square miles, you can still find yourself a tucked-away home. We’ll feature a variety of our favorites pulled from the county’s residential real estate listings all week long, from affordable homes to fancy-pants properties with lots of bells and whistles. Stay tuned for the best of Columbia County’s east-of-Hudson countryside…
