This Woodstock Farmhouse + Writer’s Cabin + Yurt is Calling to You, $379,000

We’ve seen this farmhouse + yurt property on AirBnB.com a number of times over the years, intrigued as we are by yurts in general. For the uninitiated, a yurt is a circular tent with a peaked roof, sometimes with an opening at the top to allow for a small wood stove chimney. Yurts have the potential to be as fancy or simple as you want, but we admit we love a fancy yurt. The yurt included with this two-acre property certainly qualifies as a “fancy yurt,” thanks to the presence of wood floors, windows, and ample room to stand up (that’s part of what separates it from a regular tent). Currently, the yurt is set up as a healing arts studio, and that makes it a perfect fit for this week’s focus on Live/Work properties in the Hudson Valley and Catskills.

Aside from the yurt, there’s a lot going on with this property. The main farmhouse is an antique vision, for one. Originally built in 1845, the house includes 1500 square feet, three bedrooms, two full baths, formal dining room, and adjacent kitchen ideal for family meals. The living room, which has plank floors and beamed ceilings, is kept cozy with a wood stove. Upstairs, the master bedroom includes an en suite bath. Meanwhile, right next to the house, there’s a small, no-frills writer’s studio that could be upgraded to a studio/office. Or, there’s always the yurt.

Located just outside of Woodstock village in the hamlet of Bearsville, home to the Bearsville Theater, the Bear Cafe, the Little Bear, and the similarly ursine-monikered business, the Cub Market.
