Enough with the cold already! Bring on the budding leaves and the daffodils and the asparagus and the nettles and the strawberries!<\/p>\n<p>It is no longer winter around here, but it isn\u2019t spring yet either. It is half-spring. Here are some signs of the times:<\/p>\n<p>The hoop house is mostly planted, half with lettuce, beet, and radish seeds, and half with seedlings &#8212; kale, chard, calendula, lettuce, and a couple fool hardy tomato seedlings.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"diary.spring.hoophouse\" src=\"http:\/\/upstater.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/diary.spring.hoophouse.jpg\" width=\"390\" height=\"520\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The horses are enjoying the sun.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"diary.spring.jasmine\" src=\"http:\/\/upstater.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/diary.spring.jasmine.jpg\" width=\"520\" height=\"390\" \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"diary.spring.cotton\" src=\"http:\/\/upstater.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/diary.spring.cotton.jpg\" width=\"520\" height=\"415\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our friend Erica\u2019s goats have begun kidding. Her goat Gidget had quadruplets! Our goats aren&#8217;t due to kid until May, so we have been getting our goat kid fix at her place, and helping her to bottle feed.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"diary.spring.goatkdislying\" src=\"http:\/\/upstater.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/diary.spring.goatkdislying.jpg\" width=\"520\" height=\"349\" \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"diary.spring.goat.bottle\" src=\"http:\/\/upstater.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/diary.spring.goat_.bottle.jpg\" width=\"390\" height=\"520\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The teenager chicks are going outside for the day. We\u2019re still bringing them in at night, but they are loving the sun and the dirt and the room to stretch.
