Yacht-Inspired Chalet in Gardiner, $448,000

  |  August 6, 2012

The listing for this house in Gardiner says that it was designed by a “life-long sailor & master woodworker of classic wooden boats.” We don’t know much about boats, but we know what looks cool, and this house certainly qualifies. It’s not huge (just over 1400 square feet), and the price comes it at around $300/square foot, but what really sells it are the details, like the beautiful woodworking using high-quality materials like mahogany and black walnut. And check out the rope-suspended stairs.Very nifty.

The location is certainly picturesque. It’s right in the middle of Minnewaska Preserve and Lake Minnewaska, close to Mohonk Mountain, and it’s situated on a dead-end road. Lot size is nothing big, just a half-acre, but what a nice half-acre it is. Approximately 20 minutes outside of the hamlet of Gardiner, which makes it remote, like a lone ship on the open sea.
