A Restored Vintage Millbrook Beauty: $795K

  |  June 19, 2024

Millbrook, in Dutchess County, has a bevy of beautiful homes. And today, Upstater is visiting one that’s perfect for a family who occasionally needs space for guests.

This beautiful home harks back to the Civil War era, and has been updated to fit modern times. The exterior retains vintage details like white cedar-shake siding and an expansive front porch. A center dormer rises a full story above the rest of the house. Black shutters doll up the white facade.

The new owner may or may not like the old-fashioned wallpaper and stair runner in the center hall. But modern touches await, as the mod art on the walls of the adjoining living room attest.

Purple walls are a dark backdrop to that modern art, and white trim contrasts with the dark wood flooring.

This office has a Midcentury Modern flair in the desk and chair and sleek leather side chair.

The 1800s reappear in ceiling beams and original flooring in the dining room, which has a wide iron pendant lamp over the table and French doors to the yard.

The farmhouse-style kitchen is modern, but has vintage touches like the sink and the clever “pie-safe”-style doors concealing the washer and dryer.

The ceiling is low in this bedroom, and the space around the bed is a bit of a squeeze, but it’s still an attractive space.

This one is a little roomier, with the same gray walls and white trim.

This bedroom, too, shares the same colors. We love those oversized windows.

This bathroom is a treat for vintage lovers, but could be a “must redo” for others. Creamy wainscoting covers the vanity and surrounds the soaking tub, while floral wallpaper climbs the walls from chair-rail height. That glass linen cabinet and the window that streams sunlight on the wood floor are must-keeps.

A side deck is streamlined and simple. The half-acre yard is pretty, too.

This fully decked-out pool is a welcome respite on sweltering days. It sits between the house and…

…this sweet, stucco pool house.

Heavy rafters overhead and built-in shelves on the walls are a stunning statement in the pool house. The arched doorway is a nice touch, too.

There are two rooms for guests.

Plus, a kitchenette!

The property is about a mile and a half from downtown Millbrook and tasty eats at Babette’s Kitchen. And Millbrook Vineyards & Winery is just five miles from here.
