ICYMI in the Daily Freeman: Water Park/Resort is Coming to New Paltz
Kandy Harris | June 30, 2015From the folks that brought us Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland comes Wildberry Lodge in New Paltz. According to a recent article in the Daily Freeman: “The Wildberry Lodge would be four stories high and include 256 guest rooms, a 70,000-square-foot indoor water park, 10,000 square feet of conference facilities, up to six indoor and eight outdoor tennis courts, a zip line, a ropes course, an outdoor climbing wall, outdoor water rides, a spa and a 10-lane bowling alley to be built on a 57 acre plot to the tune of about $80 million. Wildberry Lodge will also employ 400 full time employees, says developer Steve Turk, and will use about 68,000 gallons of water per day. That last part seems pretty important to us. Currently, the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency is awaiting Turk’s request for a PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) deal, which they will ultimately have to approve. More on this story as it develops. Meanwhile, does this sound like a great idea, or a not-so-great idea? Let us know in the comments.
