A Westtown Barn Home with Stained-Glass Accents: $799.9K

  |  April 1, 2024

We’re easing slowwwwly into springtime (we know, a slushy rain is forecast this week, but still…). For those who want to see some color already, Upstater’s visiting homes this week that have stained-glass details.

Today’s place is a stunner: Outside, this renovated barn in Westtown, Orange County, resembles others that are scattered throughout this rural region of the county.

Inside, it’s been renovated with beautiful woodwork…

…and a spectacular, custom-created, stained-glass window in the two-story-tall great room.

With a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace on one side, and a deep-toned, wood-plank ceiling above, this eight-paned window is a masterpiece.

The wood planking continues on the kitchen ceiling, too. Expanses of wood cabinetry are visually separated with granite countertops. That long breakfast bar to the right fits four stools.

An adjoining dining room has beamed wood details and plenty of room for a dinner crowd.

A main-floor laundry room is convenient.

This half-bath is, too.

The main floor also sports a primary suite that’ll knock your socks off. French doors with patterned glass open from the great room into this bedroom. Another glass door leads to the yard.

This walk-in closet has room for a diva.

Ceramic tile surrounds a corner garden tub; a glass-walled shower is good for those days when you don’t have time for a soak. Glass blocks next to it add architectural interest.

Head upstairs to find this bedroom with amber walls and a wood floor.

There’s a green-walled, Jack-and-Jill bathroom…

…connecting that bedroom to this one, which has wood flooring and a beamed ceiling.

A piano room is also up here. It’s carpeted for acoustic reasons, we’re guessing.

A fourth bedroom has beams along one wall and a richer-toned wood floor.

An ensuite bath has a tile-surrounded tub/shower and a white vanity.

We can’t recall the last time we saw a basement with a vaulted ceiling, but this recreation room on the lower level certainly rocks it. There’s room here for arcade games, a pool table, a full bar, a conversation area, and a kitchenette. There are three additional, unfinished rooms down here, as well as the garage. The house measures a whopping 4,765 square feet—check out the virtual tour for the full perspective.

Did we mention there’s a bathroom down here, too? It’s got a bench and a fridge for reasons known only to the current owner.

A workshop occupies one of the unfinished spaces.

All of this sits on two acres, amid verdant farmland. Route 84 isn’t far, and a 20-minute drive in nearly any direction will get you to Goshen, Middletown, or the village of Florida (an elegant dinner at Glenmere Mansion awaits).
