Ignore the Title and Enjoy HuffPo’s Guide to the Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley/Brooklyn comparisons are so played out we can hardly bring ourselves to mention it. And yet, they persist. Regardless of its title, this short distance-based guide to the Hudson Valley courtesy HuffPo hits some high points, and given they’re arranged from shortest to longest distance from Brooklyn, we suppose the title was unavoidable. Starting from Bear Mountain State Park and ending in Phoenicia (which we consider to be much more Catskills than Hudson Valley), the list points to hiking, good food, and the fact that places like Germantown and yes, even our beloved Kingston, are nothing like Brooklyn, so stop trying to claim it thus. We calculated that hitting all five destinations on the list covers about 180 miles and approximately 4.5 hours of driving without stops (but of course you’re stopping), which might be tough for a day trip but totally doable over a three-day weekend. Leaving enough time to get deeper into the Catskills, naturally. Speaking of which, check out the Upstater Magazine fall guide to A Weekend in the Catskills.
