Where the Rubber Meets the Rental
Kandy Harris | February 27, 2015Upstate house-ophiles are probably familiar with the Rubber House in Accord. The modernist home completely encased in neoprene was designed in the 1980s by Tom Pritchard for choreographer Eugene Loring, a fact that becomes clear when you see that the dance studio is still intact. Academy Award winning actor Willem Defoe called it home for a while, and, if the Rubber House’s Facebook page is up-to-date, still owns it. Now us lowly rabble with enough cold hard cash can play house within its rubbery walls. Accommodates 4 guests and goes for $500/night, $2000/week, or $5000/month. Min. stay 2 nights. Includes a living room fireplace, chef’s kitchen, floor-to-ceiling glass, spa-like baths, dance studio, and, as we mentioned, a dance studio. Winter got you bouncing off the walls? There are plenty of dates available through March and beyond. Located in Ulster County not far from the charming hamlet of Stone Ridge.
