New Yorkers love hockey, small towns, Stewart’s ice cream, state fairs, and garlic. But New Yorkers don’t like having to explain to everyone that they don’t live anywhere near Manhattan. Of course, we’re referring to New York Staters here, not necessarily city-dwellers, and real estate website Movoto.com named these and a few others in a list called 21 Things You Need to Know About New York Before You Move Here. The Saugerties Garlic Festival gets a shout-out at number 3, and you can’t have a list about New York without include the ubiquitous Stewart’s Shops. The Headless Horsemen in Ulster Park also gets a nod at the number 6 spot. So does the Rhinebeck Sinterklass parade and Bethel Woods. One glaring omission: High taxes. But we suppose that’s not as much to talk about as football, breweries, and the Adirondacks. What else did they leave off?
