8-Day Week: I Want to Ride My Bicycle
Kandy Harris | May 1, 2014
The Putnam Cycling Classic has been a popular event in Putnam County for a number of years. What different this year? Well, it won’t be held in Cold Spring, like it has been for the past two years. For 2014, the center of action will take place in Brewster on Saturday, May 10th. That’s not the only new addition to the event this year. In addition to a race consisting of various course lengths and difficulties and the Tour de Putnam, a non-competitive cycling tour, the Classic will feature a pasta picnic in the afternoon open to the public. A multitude of courses are available for experienced riders, intermediate riders, and beginners alike. Starting points are spread across several Putnam County municipalities, including Brewster, Mahopac, and Carmel, with routes passing through every town in the county. The event consists of two competitive courses, a 100 miler ($99 to register) and a 62 miler ($89). The noncompetitive Tour de Putnam features a 24 miler ($54) and a 12 miler ($39). Cyclists can fuel up after their long rides with a pasta picnic at the end of the day. Tickets to the picnic cost $14 per adult, $8 for children. Get the kids out for a ride with a youth discount on registration. Make it part of the Mother’s Day weekend and enjoy some lovely Putnam County vistas with her. So far, the weather for Saturday calls for sun. Go get your ride on.
