Shake Off Winter’s Frosty Chains @ Storm King Art Center’s Exhibition Opening, May 14
Storm King Art Center | April 19, 2016To say that we’ve been anxiously awaiting spring might be just a bit of an understatement. On top of that, the bonkers weather with snow one day and 75F degrees the next has given us a bad case of climate confusion. Luckily, Storm King Art Center takes all the guesswork out of seasonal discombobulation. When the 500-acre sculpture garden is open for business, that means spring is, too. Storm King opened for the season Wednesday, April 6th.
Celebrate Spring at Storm King on Saturday, May 14, 2016 for the opening of their 2016 Special Exhibitions. Two new exhibits will be debuting: Dennis Oppenheim: Terrestrial Studio and Measures by Josephine Halvorson.
Oppenheim’s exhibit features outdoor and indoor sculpture, installation, sound, film, and photography as well as two major earthworks conceived by the artist, but never fully realized in his lifetime. His works are situated throughout the grounds at South Fields, Meadows, and Museum Hill, and inside of the Museum Building. The exhibition runs through November 13, 2016.
This year, Storm King’s site-specific exhibit includes three new works by Josephine Halvorson, as part of Storm King’s annual Outlooks series, which enlists a mid-career artist to create work that will be on view for a single season. Halvorson’s installation is composed of three large-scale, painted, wooden rulers—or “measures,” as the artist has titled the project. Corresponding to their environment, the pieces are situated on Museum Hill, North Woods, and South Fields.
Donor Members and above are invited to a special afternoon reception on the back patio at 3pm on May 14th. Learn more about Storm King Membership and join online at stormking.org/get_involved/membership/.
