Roofs that Bloom

Or, rather, it’s about roofs that range from rose red to buttercup yellow, courtesy of “living roof” designer Shawn McCloskey. The roofs host sustainable plants and flowers that reduce a building’s carbon footprint, offer UV protection and potentially extend the life of a roof. And, of course, they look pretty. “Striking blends of multicolored Sedum plants, and the reduced carbon footprint they provide, can be found at places like Rhinebeck’s Omega Institute and atop the Mohonk Preserve Visitors’ Center—providing precious visibility for a movement with a seemingly unending list of benefits,” they write.
