A Dramatic Barn Reno in Accord: $2.8M

  |  May 9, 2024

Today’s Upstater house profile is a dramatic barn reno in Accord.

The gambrel-roofed beauty in the Ulster County hamlet departs from the barn-red ethos, in favor of a light teal blue. It’s still *chef’s kiss* perfect from its pointed peak to the center triplet of windows flanked by barn-door shutters. Word on the street is that this was owned (and designed) by a well-known designer who shall remain unnamed (bummer).

The two-story entry is a riot of houseplants.

Steel-and-wood stairs rise from the front door to the second floor, bypassing the kitchen and a dining room.

But let’s linger…The kitchen has polished counters over gray cabinets, along with a black marble aproned sink.

The breakfast room is a sunny departure from the rather-dark kitchen.

The kitchen island obviously had a first life in a general store or somewhere similar.

Here’s a second, full look at the breakfast room. It’s soaked with sunlight.

The half-bath on the main floor is a contrast of black and white. We love that vintage deep work sink.

A dark wood beam cuts a swath at ceiling height in this bedroom, which has a row of French doors for light and air.

The bath here is dark and moody.

This nook in the living room has a plaster fireplace and a perfect spot to curl up with a good book.

One could just imagine the calls of “Heathcliff!” from this Gothic-inspired bedroom.

In contrast, this bedroom almost carries a beachy theme in blue and white.

This bedroom would likely appeal to girlish sleepovers with its curtained bunks.

The ceiling is limbo-low in this bedroom, which has shiplap walls.

Ooh, we love the clawfoot tub in this bath.

All told, the house has five bedrooms and 3.5 baths. This room has an iron Juliet balcony that’s open to the outdoors.

Keep the bugs away in this equally sunny but fully enclosed sunporch. It has a slate floor and a bench that runs along two walls.

Alfresco dining is possible under the outdoor pergola.

The house sprawls at 4,635 square feet. It’s secluded, but if you crave action, the Accord Speedway (a dirt track!) is five minutes from here. A more refined experience can be had with dinner at Butterfield at Hasbrouck House.
