Burning Question of the Day: Can You Get a Lakeside Cottage in Kingston, NY?

  |  May 18, 2017

We won’t bury the lede: Yes, you can find a lakeside cottage in Kingston. Furthermore, you can find two for the price of one located on the green shores of Lake Katrine in Ulster County. Situated west of the Hudson, Lake Katrine is officially in the hamlet of Lake Katrine in the town of Ulster, but most consider it to be part of Kingston in general. It’s an area known for urban-y sprawl, the Hudson Valley Mall, and big box and chain stores in strip malls along Route 9W headed south from Saugerties village.

However, tucked behind all that retail is this quiet little lakeside community where we found two lake houses for the price of one. The first one, depicted just below the text, includes two bedrooms, one bath, fireplace, gorgeous wood floors, a glass solarium room that overlooks the water, and a huge back deck for even more views. And, you can cancel your gym membership, because a few trips up and down the staircase to the property’s private dock should do the trick.

Cottage number two is a small studio fully self-sufficient with kitchen, full bath, and a screened-in porch/mud room. Both cottages could use a touch of updating, but the raw materials are solid, and the location can’t be beat. Ten minutes, tops, to Uptown Kingston, and 15 minutes to Saugerties village. I-87 Thruway access is 10 minutes away.

230-240 Privatewood Court, Lake Katrine (Berkshire Hathaway)
