Car-Free Upstate: Beacon Cottage, $600/week
Kandy Harris | April 16, 2014Here’s a rental in Beacon that’s less than $100 a night and walking distance to the Metro North, Main Street, the waterfront, and the Dia. It’s tiny for sure, essentially a studio with a divider between the bed and kitchen. Still, could be an inexpensive base of operations if you want to travel around by train, bus, bike, or foot. The cottage is on the owner’s property, which has its advantages and disadvantages. Advantage: If you need anything, they’re right there. Disadvantage: Not much privacy. Not the “getting away from it all” kind of privacy some of us crave, anyway. But it’s neat, cute, and right in town. Oh, and the rate goes up to $105 on the weekends, and July is completely available.
