Car-Free Upstate: Salisbury Mills Farmhouse, $289,999
Kandy Harris | January 29, 2014We’re taking a brief pause from the world of five-figures to take a gander at this circa-1845 farmhouse in Salisbury Mills, Orange County. Salisbury Mills is in the town of New Windsor, and while the surroundings feel a bit like the countryside, it’s less than a mile from the Salisbury Mills-Cornwall Metro North/NJ Transit and close to a couple of restaurants/bars. There’s no real grocery store nearby, but there is a Cumberland Farms right down the road. It’s a gorgeous house on a whole acre with lake rights to Beaverdam Lake, and for Orange County, the taxes are surprisingly reasonable. Suspiciously reasonable, in fact. We’re not sure we’re buying the realtor’s number. Not interested in buying it? Rent it for $2,500/month, instead.
