Catskill Balloons Unveiled This Saturday, 4/12
Kandy Harris | April 8, 2014The balloons are coming to Catskill. Coinciding nicely with the village’s monthly Second Saturday Stroll, the unveiling of the Catskill Balloons will take place at the Bridge Street Theater, 44 West Bridge Street at 12pm during an opening reception. The 35 foot tall latex balloon sculpture by artist Jason Hackenwerth entitled AVIARY (reimagined) comes to the Greene County village by way of the Guggenheim Museum’s rotunda and will be prominently displayed in various places around Catskill, including 404 Main Street (we just recently posted about this place). Other Second Saturday Stroll happenings that day: Art openings, a car show, music, and the grand opening of the Magpie Bookshop. The Bridge Street Theatre will be holding free story time for kids Saturdays April 19 through May 3 at 1pm under the balloon installation entitled, appropriately, Stories Under the Big Balloons. You can find out more about the whole she-bang here on the Catskill village website. AVIARY is part of Masters on Main Street. Oh, and the press released said to check the Green Arts website for changes to the event because “things are still up in the air right now.” See what they did there? More pictures of the balloon sculpture after the jump.
