Dome Home of the Week: Dome Sweet Dome in Kerhonkson, $195,000
Kandy Harris | November 22, 2016We’re practically tripping over dome homes in the Hudson Valley and Catskills over the past couple of week. In fact, we found two domes in the Ulster County town of Kerhonkson alone. This one was our favorite.
More of a dome-connected-to-a-smaller-dome, the house was built in 2005 and includes a concrete exterior (fire and weather-proof!), radiant heat, three bedrooms, two full baths, and 3000 square feet. The attached wing helps create two distinct spaces, and the whole cool thing sits on over three acres of tucked-away land in the Shawangunk Mountains.
So, why a dome? And a concrete dome, at that? Well, concrete is virtually indestructible ( and zombie-proof!). And, a dome shape means more evenly-distributed heat during the winter, which means no more cold nooks and crannies. Plus, it feels big and roomy thanks to its open shape. What’s not to love about a dome?
