They were up for a visit to the Woodstock Film Festival and itching to leave New York after 9/11. The weekend turned into more than a decade, after they purchased an “all-glass saltbox contemporary” in Saugerties.

They write, “Currently, Malkin rents out the contemporary on Fred Short Road to a long-term tenant. He and Pokras live in a streamside colonial on a quiet road. They also own two side-by-side houses in Palenville overlooking Niobe Falls, which they rent to vacationers on a short-term basis.”

It helps that Malkin had plenty of other high-end assets in real estate portfolio — not all who are fortunate enough to own a tiny piece of New York City real estate can amass a collection of Catskills homes. But it does have us dreaming.
