Here Come the Flea Markets
Kandy Harris | April 11, 2014Like so many spring buds, the outdoor flea markets are opening once again. Quick! Run to the ATM and put on your haggling hat! Here are the fleas opening this month (that we know of. If we missed one, by all means, tell us in the comments) in no particular order:
Beacon Flea Market, Beacon (GMAP, between Henry and S. Chestnut):
It’s already open, and it will continue to operate every Sunday, if the weather is good, until November. Parking is free in the city lots, and it’s a cash-only situation. Check out the Beacon Flea Market blog for photos and more information.
Rinaldi Flea Market, Poughkeepsie (GMAP):
This one has also been open since April 6 and runs, weather permitting, every Sunday until November, 8am-4pm. Rinaldi Flea is a big deal around these parts, and Bill Rinaldi, who started the market, has been in the antiques biz for 40 years. There’s ample parking, but leave the pets at home for this one. More info here on their website.
High Falls Flea Market, High Falls (GMAP at Grady Park, Route 213):
The High Falls flea is one of the best in Ulster County, and it’s located right in the heart of picturesque High Falls. The market’s opening day is this Sunday, April 13th, as long as the weather is nice. And the forecast calls for sun and 70 degree temps, which sounds like perfect flea marketing weather to us. The market runs from 9am-4pm every Sunday through October. Here’s their website.
Stormville Aiport Antique Show and Flea Market, East Fishkill (GMAP):
The Stormville flea is the grandaddy of big markets in the Upstater area, with over 600 vendors, concessions, and kids’ activities (for an extra fee, of course). The next shopping date is Sunday, April 27, 8am-4pm. Parking is free. More information here.
Mower’s Flea Market, Woodstock (GMAP):
Mower’s is an institution in Woodstock, located in a shady field behind Bread Alone. Parking is tricky unless you get there really early, but that’s okay. Park down a side street and take a stroll. Mower’s is great because you’ll find more than just flea market items. You can find plants, fruits, and veggies, too. Opening day is Saturday, May 17, and they’re open every Saturday and Sunday through November, with Wednesday markets in July and August. Here’s this year’s brochure.
Those should keep you busy for a few weekends, but we need more! Help us round out our round up by offering your suggestions for good outdoor flea markets in the area.
