Hudson Woods: Not Your Grandfather’s Subdivison
Kandy Harris | January 24, 2014A new subdivision called Hudson Woods, set to be located in the Ulster County town of Kerhonkson, is getting a bit of press lately. So far, we’ve read about it in the New York Observer, Wall Street Journal, and in a New York Times article about Hudson. Lest you start imagining construction crews clear-cutting large swathes of land to make way for giant McMansions, think again. Architect Drew Lang of Lang Architecture has something completely different in mind. He explained in the New York Observer article that “Too many residential developments have falsely created landscapes. They lack oneness with place.” Instead, his firm is creating a unique subdivision/planned community that embraces its woodsy, idyllic landscape and attempts to bring the wonder of the Catskills into each of the proposed chalet-style homes with walls of glass and a feeling of spaciousness.
Here’s the dope: Hudson Woods is situated on a 131-acre tract of land in Kerhonkson. It will be comprised of 26 dwellings, each on anywhere from nearly 3 acres to 12 acres. The properties are geared toward those who wish to vacation or spend weekends upstate surrounded by all that prettiness that people travel up here for, but with a modern, sleek sensibility. Currently, there are only 7 of the 26 plots are available to purchase. Available lots, which are built to order, run from $665,000 to $715,000. Occupants to can choose to add vegetables gardens, fruit trees, greenhouses, pools, or even tree houses. There are also lots of interior upgrades available, too.
