Irish Ambassador Her Excellency Anne Anderson will be paying a visit to Kingston this coming Saturday, August 30th. She will be honored at a reception that day, which will also double as a fundraiser for the construction of a new Irish Cultural Center. The reception will be held at the SteelHouse on the Rondout in Kingston. The new center will be built on land that once was home to the D&H Canal Headquarters. “We think of the center as a mini university open to the entire Hudson Valley – a place for anyone interested in Irish culture and history to experience – the best in traditional and contemporary Irish music, dance, literature, crafts, and sports,” said Irish Cultural Center of the Hudson Valley president Robert Carey in a press release issued by the ICCHV. The reception and the visit by the Ambassador coincides with Kingston’s biggest Irish festival, the Hooley on the Hudson, which takes place the same weekend. Among local potentates and elected officials, Pulitzer Prize winning author William Kennedy will also be on hand at the reception, which takes place from 6:30-8:30pm on Saturday. Find out more about the reception and the Hooley on the ICCHV website.
