It’s been rainy and grey outside and we’ve been having trouble keeping our eyes open. We’ve got some serious need for a lazy, stay-in-bed-all-morning type of weekend. Don’t get us wrong, this weather is much needed but something about it makes people extra brassy. We’ve got it under good authority, however, that people in the Historic Village of Montgomery are just the opposite. Children stomp in puddles in their yellow wellies and couples peruse antique shops, huddled under the cover of a big umbrellas, in no rush to escape the rain. It’s ridiculously charming and although it doesn’t take up much space on the map, we’re pretty certain Montgomery is a fairytale town that becomes even more enchanting on rainy days. Book a night at the Borland House and you’ll see what we mean.

Located across the street from a farmer’s market and around the corner from various antique shops, this bed and breakfast is the perfect place to protect you from the elements. Most of the buildings in the village are centuries old and this one is no exception – built in 1789. Stay in a private wing of this historic mansion for $89 a night and if you’re really committed to a weekend of seclusion, a private staircase leads you right up to your room so you don’t even have to interact with people. Oh, and did we mention that your reservation includes a $30 gift certificate to the gourmet brunch house located on the main floor? You don’t even have to go outside to eat breakfast. Go ahead, have your lazy weekend. Just do it in Montgomery! Book it here.
