Hot off the news that an artisanal craft fair (okay, “faire”) is taking place in Hudson, we have this to share: Catskill is getting a new incubator of all things crafty. Union Mills, a former industrial space in Catskill, will become The Catskill Mill, thanks to Etsy founder Rob Kalin and a few of his pals, reports the Daily Mail. The plan: “Transform the property into a complex devoted to craftsmanship.”

It’s a beautiful vision: a restaurant on the first floor serving locally grown food, outfitted with furniture made by artisans who live and work in the building. “Everything that we use in the dining room of the restaurant, we’re going to make in the Mill,” Kalin told the paper.

“The tables and chairs will be made in the Mill’s wood shop, the plates and dishes in a ceramics shop, the drinking glasses in a glassblowing studio, the silverware in a small-scale metal forge, the tablecloths in a linen shop, beer in a brewery in the basement, and so on.”

If only blogging were considered an art, then we’d apply for an apartment! We’ll report details as they come.
