Looking for Work in the Hudson Valley?
Kandy Harris | January 22, 2015Need a J-O-B in the Hudson Valley? If you’re looking for work as a nurse, carpenter, home health aide, mechanic, or medical scientist (but not an epidemiologist), you might be in luck. According to the NYS Department of Labor, those are the Top Five Trending Jobs for 2015 in the region (thanks to the Yorktown Patch for hipping us to this info via the Department of Labor’s press release). And the pay is not too shabby…unless you’re a home health care aide. Here’s the median salary breakdown:
– Registered Nurses ($76,450)
– Carpenters ($57,020)
– Home Health Aides ($23,390)
– Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics ($43,940)
– Medical Scientists, Except Epidemiologists ($87,380)
The press release goes on to tout the Dept. of Labor’s Jobs Express for job seekers all over the state looking for job openings, info on local job fairs/recruitment, career center events, etc. We took a look at the current vacancies for the Hudson Valley and found the most listings in the Sales & Related (over 1000, which is not surprising; that’s a pretty big and random category), Office/Clerical (920), Transportation & Material Moving (733), and Computer/Mathematical (718), Management (681), and Health Care Practitioner/Consultant (660).
Another tid-bit we discovered on the NYS Dept. of Labor: Kingston leads the region in private sector job growth for 2014 (+2.2% over 2013), which is only going to make everyone love Kingston even more.
