On Living Well in Upstate NY
Kandy Harris | February 25, 2014Can residing in upstate New York teach the rest of the country a thing or two about living well? According to this piece we stumbled across on HuffPo the other day, indeed it can. Writer Erin Schumaker claims that upstate New York (which Schumaker defines as “outside the greater metropolitan area and is bounded by Canada to the north, Vermont to the east and Oneida County to the west”) is all about embracing progressive legislation, enjoying small town life at a slower pace, staying healthy by taking advantage of the area’s numerous outdoor recreational opportunities, making time for vacation, eating local, and appreciating the arts, just to name a few. We certainly agree with Schumaker on many points, given that we’ve lived upstate for quite sometime and have no desire to leave, but we’re not sure these are much different than many other parts of the country. Thoughts? Has living in upstate New York (or visiting often) increased your quality of life? Tell us how in the comments.
