Price Dropped $20,000 on this Charming Phoenicia Farmhouse, $259,000
Kandy Harris | October 27, 2015We’ve noticed that Phoenicia’s inventory is a little on the low side these days. Could it be that everyone has discovered its awesomeness, or is it due to natural market fluctuations? Either way, this was on the short list of treasures* we found in the Catskills hamlet. Built in 1915, the house had a complete stripped-to-the-studs upgrades. Includes the original staircase and oak floors. Four bedrooms and a Jacuzzi bath on the second floor, living room/kitchen/dining room/full bath/room with a separate entrance on the first. There’s a full acre of land that comes with it, plus mountain and meadow views, and it’s situated privately at the end of a long driveway. Phoenicia is 10 minutes away, and Belleayre ski center is 20 minutes. 2.5 hours from NYC. Best news of all: The price was just dropped by $20,000. Better get on that.
*Speaking of treasures, local legend has it that Prohibition-era gangster Dutch Schultz buried his somewhere around Phoenicia. The story goes that Schultz, on his way to a date with destiny at a Newburgh restaurant, stopped in the Phoenicia area, dug an actual honest-to-god treasure hole, and put around $7 million in cash and bonds. To this day, the treasure has never been recovered. It’s an intriguing story, and you can read more here and over here. Maybe it’s buried in the backyard of this house.
