Interested in living upstate in the Catskills but not sure how to make it work? Here’s a unique opportunity courtesy Workaway.com: In exchange for 4 to 5 hours worth of work a day, you can stay in the above-pictured farmhouse near the Pepacton Reservoir in Delaware County, share some meals, swim in the pond, and hike the woods. The kind of work expected includes putting up fences around the gardens, helping to restore an old barn, planting trees, and hauling rocks. The owners of the house will even pick you up at the nearest bus stop if you don’t have a car to get you there. Here’s a link to the request (including photos; looks like a pretty place) in case you or someone you know are interested. Head’s up: No drugs or excessive drinking allowed. Up until recently, we were unfamiliar with Workaway, which provides opportunities for budget travel and cultural immersion in return for some volunteer work. What a great concept. If you know of any other opportunities like this in the Hudson Valley or Catskills, please let us know.
