It’s seems to be a yearly trend: As soon as the weather is consistently above freezing, the lists touting the virtues of the HV and Catskills start to pop up in our news feeds. Fine by us. We like it when people come to visit and buy things from our stores and go off on adventures in our great outdoors. So here’s the latest list from Country Living, outlining 33 reasons to visit the Hudson Valley. This, of course, coincides with the Country Living Fair, which is set for June 6-8 at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, another reason to visit the HV. The list is broken down in categories: Where to Antique, Where to Shop, Where to Eat, Where to Visit, Where to Stay, and Where to Unwind. While most of their choices involved the Usual Suspects (visit Olana, get some chocolates from Lucky in Saugerties, eat at the Terrapin, etc.), it was nice to see a few unexpected places get some love, like Otto’s Market in Germantown, Fed On Lights Antiques in Saugerties, and the Coxsackie Antiques Center. Maybe we should create our own list here on Upstater. We’d love to hear your suggestions for off-the-beaten path must-visits in the HV and Catskills. We’ll start you off. How about hiking back to the Esopus Creek falls in Saugerties? Or taking a paddle out to Esopus Island in the Hudson (we posted about it yesterday in our Destinations post)? Or feasting on the buffet at the Red Hook Curry House? Or enjoying a burger and music at the Anchor in Kingston? What else? Fire away in the comments!
