Three Ways to Spoil Your Humans this Weekend

We ask that the humans in our readership sit tight for just a moment as we address our furred and feathery Upstaters.

To the Pets of the Northeast,

It has been a long winter. Even with the knit sweater, going out in the bitter cold of the morning is no walk in the park, even if it is, technically, a walk in the park. Your humans are not faring well; you didn’t think it was possible, but without their regular dose of vitamin D, they have been behaving even more strangely with every passing week. Meanwhile, the little human hasn’t been to school in what seems like ages, and handling all that pent-up snow day energy is exhausting. We understand, and we think it’s about time that you send your humans a gentle reminder that you, too, could benefit from a little pampering after what you have had to endure this winter. Lucky for you, pet spas of note can be found right up the river, so get your human to book your day of indulgence now, and while you’re enjoying your full-body grooming, keep them entertained at one of these three luxurious rentals:

1) 1920s Beacon Charmer

Price/night: $350
Accommodations: Full house, 2 bedrooms
Max guests: 6
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
We would happily pay the additional pet fee to spend a weekend in Carole’s delightful Beacon home. The space is welcoming and furnished with an eclectic assemblage of art and artifacts. And we’d agree with Carole – the location is truly unbeatable. There aren’t many locations north of the city where one could get by without a car, but this rental is within walking distance to the river, the closest Metro North train station, Beacon’s Main Street, and all of the wonderful attractions that this unique town has to offer. A scenic drive across the Hudson is necessary to get to Newburgh’s Pet N Play, but we hear the owners of this exclusive pet resort are now offering transportation options for getting your furry friend to their spa date in style.

Sample reviews:

When I walked in the house I was immediately happy. The pictures almost don’t do it justice – Carole’s decorating is calming and lovely. She met me and showed me around and we ended up chatting like old friends. My daughter and I felt right at home.

The kitchen and bathroom are wonderfully equipped- I like to cook and found everything I needed. Carole had great suggestions about markets, and it’s true that it’s a very easy walk into town. If you’re looking for anything to do she has a cabinet full of pamphlets and menus and maps – all sorts of information about the area.

Beacon is a great town and Carole’s home makes it even better.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Carole’s house. It was cosy and comfortable at night and light and airy in the day. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking stuff and the bed was super comfortable. The porch was a great place to hang out and take in the sky and landscape and warm air. Beacon was fun, particularly Dia and the area down by the water.

We felt completely relaxed and at home. Carole was so welcoming and friendly and kind. She even lent us a stove-top cooking pot. I would highly recommend anyone stay at her place.

2) Sunny Saugerties Cabin

Price/night: $145
Accommodations: Full house, 1 bedroom
Max guests: 2
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
Saugerties is a town full of pet lovers. In addition to the Eco Pet Spa, boutiques like Wolf Moon Pet Barkery and Fur the Love of Dogs have created a pet-friendly vibe in this up-and-coming upstate destination. The host of our choice Saugerties rental is an animal lover as well – Ried has a lovingly maintained beehive located on the property, and both humans and dogs alike have had enjoyed their stay at his spacious and sunny cabin in the woods.

Sample reviews:

“Ried’s barn is exactly how it’s pictured — secluded enough to give you peace and quiet, but close enough to neighboring towns so you don’t feel isolated. The barn is clean and modern in all the ways that you want (renovated bathroom, modern kitchen appliances) but charming and rustic in all the ways that you want (wood beams, antique furniture). The lofted bedroom makes it perfect for a couple or a single looking to get away and unwind. Ried’s house is just up the road which was comforting. Would definitely book again!”

“Ried was a great host- he welcomed us warmly and the moment we arrived we felt like we were home. In the large kitchen there was a delicious cake, yoghurt, milk and coffee awaiting us. We stayed in the barn for 4 weeks in summer and loved every minute of our stay.

The place is a dream come true: the spacious barn is beautiful with cozy furniture and large trees all around the house and a porch overlooking the woods. It was very soothing and relaxing to be there.

The location of the barn is special, too. It is very close to Woodstock and Saugerties and many hiking trails where you have amazing views over the catskill mountains (protected as “forever wild”).

Ried is a very generous host. He was very friendly, quick to respond and always ready to be of help and at the same time laid back, leaving us to ourselves. He took good care of the house and made sure every detail of our stay was ideal.

Thank you Ried, we will definitely be back!”

3) Salt Point’s Stilton Cottage
 saltpoint

Price/night: $248
Accommodations: Full house, 3 bedrooms
Max guests: 6
Min stay: 2 nights
House description:
Stilton Cottage is a local landmark, highly rated rental, and general Dutchess County gem. We would love to investigate Justin and Lauren’s book collection, and we know a few pups who would take full advantage of the frolicking opportunities available in the spacious backyard. And of course, for that post-frolic restorative treatment, Stilton Cottage is about a twenty-minute drive to Hudson Valley Holistic Pet, a new service offered by the Compassion Veterinary Health Center centered around products and treatments from the natural world.

Sample reviews:

“Justin was incredibly attentive and helpful, addressing myriad questions and help that we needed for our group. We had elderly relatives and a young child and he gave us all of the assistance we needed for a very comfortable stay. The house was very comfortable with a beautifully appointed kitchen that was a pleasure to cook in. The master bedroom was gorgeous. The property was peaceful and beautiful. We enjoyed our weekend very much and would return in the future.”

“Justin and Lauren were wonderful hosts. We found the house in extremely clean and welcoming condition. The house was beautiful and equipped with everything one may need for a quiet, relaxing weekend in the country. Justin and Lauren left detailed instructions about the house, complete with tips on where to eat, go grocery shopping, etc. Overall, only great things to share about our stay at Stilton Cottage!”
