Not content to leave the countryside behind with last week’s farmhouse extravaganza, we decided to stay in a rural pocket of Dutchess County known as Clinton Corners. Located in the southeastern portion of the town of Clinton, the hamlet of Clinton Corners is about as idyllic as it gets, resplendent with pastoral allure and charming old farmhouses. Clinton Corners also love its horses, and the equestrian-minded will do well here, if they’re looking for a place to paddock.

Settled in the mid-18th century, Clinton Corners has lots of great historical properties, such as the 1777 Creek Meeting House, the Quaker-built structure that houses Clinton’s vast collection of photos, documents, and all manner of ephemera related to the Dutchess County town. The hamlet also used to be a stop on the Poughkeepsie and Eastern Railroad.

Amenities-wise, you’ll find farms in Clinton Corners, not to mention horse-related stuff, a vineyard, churches, an Agway, and, of course, a place to get French tarts. The Omega Institute isn’t far away, too. As we said, it’s rural, so don’t expect to stroll around town. In terms of real estate, the average listing price, according to Trulia, is around $700,000, so it’s not really a place to bargain hunt. But the offerings are delightful if a little on the pricey side.

Oh, one other thing we found whilst poking around Clinton Corners: It’s home to a very cool treehouse (our feelings about treehouses are pretty well-known by now), which was featured on the Animal Planet show Treehouse Masters. Seriously, look at this video and tell me you’re not drooling a little over it.

Clinton Corner is about 20 minutes northeast of Poughkeepsie, 20 minutes southeast of Rhinebeck, and about 90 minutes from NYC.
