Tuthilltown Spirits Remains Open After Explosion
Kandy Harris | September 26, 2012
What a bummer. One of our favorite boozeries, Tuthilltown Spirits in Gardiner, met with disaster on Monday morning, when an explosion rocked the distillery and caused some damage to the production room. According to an article in the Times Herald Record, vapors escaped from one of the copper stills met with an unknown ignition source and started the blast. Thankfully, no one was in the production room at the time of the explosion, but one employee in the business heard the boom. Also thankfully, most of Tuthilltown’s inventory lives elsewhere so it wasn’t damaged in the fire.
Tuthilltown is open, and will remain so, but the weekend tours will be canceled for the time being. Meanwhile, we’ll raise our glasses in the hopes for a quick turn-around.
