Have you sorted out your plans for the kids yet? If not, no fear. It’s not too late. In fact, we know at least two summer music and theater programs geared toward creative kids. Both are day camps and programs, so no overnighting necessary.

Paul Green Rock Academy Summer Camps and Workshops, July – August, Saugerties:

Oh my, there are so many things happening at the Rock Academy this summer not only for kids who are experienced in playing music, but for the little ones and beginners, as well. You can find out more about the PGRA’s summer programs from their website, but we’re particularly excited about Rock Strings with Tracy Bonham, July 13-17 (some experience required). For the wee ones, there are two sessions of the Small Green Rock Academy led by Bonham and Bari Koral geared toward 3-7 year olds. Other workshops include Brendon Small Metal Workshop w/ Scott Ian (some experience required), Bad Brains Recording Camp w/ Daryl Jenifer, Songwriting Camp with Michael Bernier (no experience necessary), Percussion Camp with Jason Bowman, and many more. More info here or email camp@rockacademy.com.

Sojourner Playhouse Summer Theater Program “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” June 29 – July 18, Rosendale:

Don’t call this a “summer day camp.” This is a true theater intensive for kids who are serious about diving into the basics of acting and executing a fully-staged production. The first two weeks of the program will be held at the Creative Co-Op in Rosendale 10am-3pm, and tech week plus a performance at the Rosendale Theater during the Rosendale Street Festival. Cost works on a sliding scale, so contact program director Nikki Vly [nikkivly@gmail.com] for more info or visit the Facebook page.

This is, by no means, meant to be an inclusive list. What else is going on summer day camp or creative workshop-wise? Please let us know in the comments!
