Upstater Destinations: Edgar Allan Poe at Boscobel
Kandy Harris | October 31, 2013Happy Halloween, Upstaters! We hope you’ve got some great plans for the evening, whether it’s taking the kids trick-or-treating in one of the many walkable neighborhoods in the area (we’ll be doing it up in the village in Saugerties with our little ones) or visiting a haunted house (perhaps Barn of Terror, Headless Horseman, or Massacre Mansion) or donning your best disguise and partying down at one of the many more grown up-themed options at various bars and taverns.
While all of these sound fun, the literary nerds in us were drawn to an event this evening at the Boscobel House in Garrison. The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival presents Halloween with Edgar Allan Poe. This evening, the legendary poet will be on hand to read some of his works of fiction and fright, as well as answering questions about his oft-misunderstood life. How could this be? Wasn’t he found dead in a gutter, drunk as a skunk? Well, not exactly. But you’ll learn all about that if you attend this evening’s performance. Wine and cheese reception to follow. If you miss it tonight, you can still catch it tomorrow night through November 3rd. Tickets are $50, and they can be purchased from the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival website. This might be the swankiest Halloween event in all the Hudson Valley.
Aside from this, we’d love to hear about your spooky plans tonight. Give us your last minute Halloween festivities recommendations below in the comments!
