Classic New Paltz Victorian in Historic Neighborhood, $750K
Kandy Harris | November 9, 2020The Ulster County, NY village of New Paltz is where we fell in love with this 1890s Victorian inn/residence in a landmark district.
Serendipity, as it’s called on its Airbnb profile, sits in the Huguenot Street Historic District, one of New Paltz’s oldest neighborhoods. Populated by gracious and landmark-worthy antique homes and buildings, the historic district dates back to the 1700s and was once home to a group of Huguenots that left France under religious persecution. These days, it’s an enviable spot to live in the popular Hudson Valley college town/walkable, boutique-filled village, just around the corner from New Paltz’s many restaurants and shops. Meanwhile, just west, the picturesque Wallkill River serpentines, and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail allows for the best way to experience this enchanting part of town.
Naturally, one could see the advantages of owning an Airbnb in such a location.
Luckily, this eye-catching Victorian offers the best of both worlds: A comfortable, roomy residence separate from the income-producing rental apartment. The entire house is 3,400 square feet in size, more than large enough to accommodate both, which an open living room/dining room/kitchen on the first floor crowned by high ceilings. Original wood features like trim, flooring, and doors add to its charm.
The kitchen – designed by the home’s current owners – has its feet firmly planted in the modern era with stainless steel appliances, a center island sink, and copious storage, perfect for prepping guest or family meals…
…along with three bedrooms and 2.5 baths spread out over the upper and lower floors.
The apartment includes two bedrooms plus 1.5 baths…
…and, when you need to get away from everyone, escape to the backyard shed that’s been made over into a little private oasis. Marvel at our restraint in not calling it a “she-shed.”
There are four porches attached, which overlook the half-acre, sun-dappled yard occupied by attractive landscaping and garden beds.
