Where are You Going for Labor Day Weekend?

Other than in the Hamptons, of course, which we know is where you usually go. Don’t we all? Well, Gotham Magazine suggests that you skip the Hamptons this year and head north to the Hudson Valley and Catskills. First on the list: The Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz, for the “royal experience.” So sayeth Gotham: “With modern amenities like an outdoor heated mineral pool, tennis courts, custom guided nature hikes, horse-drawn carriage rides, and ‘afternoon tea and cookies,’ the icing on the proverbial cake is the 30,000-square-foot eco-friendly and award-winning ‘spa wing.'” Sounds heavenly…and it’s also nearly as expensive as the Hamptons.

Next up, Woodstock “for the Haute Hippie.” Are you a Haute Hippie? If so, please explain what that is. Also from Gotham: “If you’re not only looking to take a vacation, but a trip back in time, Woodstock hits all the marks. By merging serenity and the ’70s-style theme, The Hotel Dylan offers a historic and luxe hideaway with a modern twist. If you’re looking for more rusticity and peace, we suggest staying in one of the quaint and updated vintage cabins of the town’s Woodstock Way.” Okay, these are actually both really great suggestions and certainly not as pricey as Mohonk or the Hamptons.

Got cool plans for the long weekend? We would love to hear about them. In the meantime, if your last-weekend-of-summer plans involve a swimming hole, please don’t leave your trash lying around. Pack out what you bring in. Read more about how careless people are ruining things for everyone else here on the Watershed Post.
