1950s Mid-Century Modern with In-Ground Pool Five Minutes from the Cold Spring Train Station, $795,000
Kandy Harris | December 20, 2016
What do you think of this Putnam County Mid-Mod home? We like a lot of aspects of this property, not least of which the in-ground pool in a Zen-like setting. Inside, the floating stone fireplace and modern, stainless steel kitchen won us over, as does the slate back patio. It’s a downright work of art.
In the interest of full disclosure, we’ve been watching this house go on and off (mostly on) the market for several years now. Why hasn’t it sold? Could it be the taxes? Putnam County does have high property taxes, and the taxes for 2015 on this property were over $15,000/year.
The location, however, has other aspects to recommend it. First of all, while the address declares this house in Garrison, it’s actually located just five minutes from the Cold Spring train station. That puts it within striking distance of a quick 70-80 minute ride to Grand Central.
But back to the house itself. It’s got all the hallmarks of a mid-mod, like huge picture windows and an open layout, plus bleached wood floors, skylights, and ceiling beams. Includes 3 beds/4 baths and 2874 square feet. Sits on 2.3 acres right next door to Boscobel and the Constitution Marsh.
1524 Route 9D, Garrison (A. D. Preusser Inc. Real Estate)
